A Guide to Swanpool Beach

Beaches

Surrounded by cliffs and the South West Coast Path, find yourself tucked away in the perfect sun-trap in the wildlife hotspot of Swanpool Beach in Falmouth.

A ten-minute walk along the coast path from St Michaels, Swanpool is the perfect place to find yourself for a day at the beach. With so much to offer, Swanpool really is the ideal beach destination if you’re looking to mix it up and step away from the glorious Gyllyngvase Beach!

This beautiful, sheltered beach is home to calm waters, soft shingles and the infamous beach huts that make the best shelter during your beach break. But what else do you need to know before you visit?

1. Swanpool Lake

Adjacent to Swanpool Beach, you will find the wide open expanse of Swanpool Lake. Home to wildlife, including the well-loved resident ducks and swans, the lake is an ideal location for picnics, walks and the popular pass time of feeding the ducks (try bringing oats, seeds and vegetables with you to scatter for your new feathered friends)!

2. Swanpool Lake Nature Reserve

The sandy cove of Swanpool Beach resides alongside Swanpool Lake Nature Reserve. As one of the eleven most important brackish lagoons in Britain, the mixture of salt and freshwater makes it a haven for local wildlife, and the perfect spot for bird watching!

As well as being a stunning home for the birds, bees and other wildlife, the Nature Reserve is also ideally located beside the South West Coastal Path, making it the ideal place for a gentle walk amongst nature.

Whether you’re looking to try something new or are seasoned out on the waters, the calm waters of the cove are the perfect place to explore.

Home to Elemental UK, you can find many exciting water-based activities to try! Kayaks, paddleboards, boat trips and coasteering are great beach activities to spend your day on, and you can hire equipment to head out alone, or take part in a guided session with qualified instructors!

At low tide uncover the magic of the deep as you explore the rockpools found on the coast. Search for hidden treasures as you discover shells, sea creatures and other interesting objects washed up here on the Cornish coast!

If you’re lucky, as well as the regular fish, limpets and crabs, you may be able to find starfish and other interesting dwellers as you look closely amongst the shallow pools. But be careful not to slip, or you could become one of them!

8. Sea Swimming at Swanpool

Thanks to the calmer waters of the cove and the sandy floor, Swanpool is the perfect place to get in for a swim!

When the winds pick up you may find that the water becomes rougher, so it’s always best to assess the conditions first as this is not a lifeguarded beach. Consider swimming with other people around during these times to ensure you have a fun and safe swim to remember.

9. Beach Huts

Lining one edge of Swanpools sandy shores, you will see a wash of bright blues and yellows as the Swanpool beach huts come into view.

Available for seasonal hire, these huts make the perfect base for your summer days spent at the beach. With a small front porch to sit and watch the waves, and space inside to relax, eat or store your beach essentials, these are an excellent choice for people planning to spend a lot of time enjoying the beach!

A Cornish beach is the perfect place to let your dog explore, from frolicking in the waves to sniffing out any interesting treasures amongst the sands and rockpools!

Swanpool is the perfect place to let your dog work off any excess energy, but they do impose a summer dog ban between 01 July - 31 Aug every year. However, even during these times, you can still bring your dog down to the beach from 6 pm - 10 am for their daily dose of vitamin sea!
