Cornwall's Christmas Light Displays

From twinkling harbours to brightly lit festive characters, Cornwall’s Christmas lights have got it all going on!

MOUSEHOLE

Quite simply the King of Christmas lights, this petite village is Cornwall’s brightest star. From modest beginnings it has become a legendary billing in Cornwall’s festive calendar boasting an amazing 7000+ twinkling bulbs which cast the likes of sea serpents, whales and fishing boats in a myriad of colours across the harbour.

Fuelled by the passion of volunteers and the donations of wide-eyed viewers, the Mousehole Christmas Lights this year celebrates a very special 50 years with an open-air Carol Service on 12th December to mark the grand flicking of the switch. The lights will be dimmed on 19th December between 8-9pm in memory of the crew of the Penlee Lifeboat.

LOOE

Looe is another coastal town with the Christmas wow factor. Fishing boats sheltering in the harbour are outlined in a string of lights bathing a festive glow across the water, while displays on wall sides and rooftops create a celebration of light on either side of the town.

TRURO

These lights are turned on in spectacular style amongst the glow of paper lanterns at the City of Lights parade in November and will continue to shine down on shoppers as the city bursts with festive spirit. As well as spreading seasonal goodwill, the golden lights illuminate the Christmas tree standing outside Truro Cathedral and cast a cheery glow on the path to the magical ice-skating rink hidden in the Cathedral shadows.

ANGARRACK

Another small village with a big reputation for lights is Angarrack near Hayle, where an animated 12 Days of Christmas sparkles above rooftops, on wall sides and even in rivers. A true community effort, this destination village throws its arms open to groups of rosy cheeked visitors seeking out the famous partridge in a pear tree, to the twelve drummers drumming and everything in between.

PADSTOW

With a Christmas festival that attracts top names of the culinary world - not to mention 30,000 visitors - Padstow has become a bit of an expert at Christmas cheer. It's not surprising that this north Cornwall town is a bright stop on the county's 'must-do' Christmas lights trail - and it's nothing new. Visit before 6th January and you'll see the harbour and its knot of streets twinkling in the night sky. As well as looking pretty the display has special meaning, for some of the lights represent those tragically lost. Take time to stop and reflect when you see the five candles, the angel and the tree above Rojanos Restaurant.
