Twixmas in Cornwall: Time to Unwind at St Michaels
What is Twixmas? It's the unhurried stretch between Christmas and New Year's Eve. Discover how to spend it in Falmouth, with coastal walks from Gyllyngvase Beach, spa treatments, the Health Club and dinner at Brasserie on the Bay, plus our Twixmas Breaks from 27 to 30 December 2026.
Twixmas is the name for the days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, usually 27 to 30 December. The word blends “betwixt” and “Christmas.” It describes that strange, lovely stretch when the wrapping paper has gone, the cheeseboard is on its third appearance and nobody can say with any confidence whether it’s Tuesday or Thursday.
Christmas probably asked a lot of you, the planning, the hosting, the cooking, the drive to see everyone and the drive back. By Boxing Day evening, you don’t need another plan. You need a change of scene, some sea air and a breakfast somebody else has made.
At St Michaels Resort in Falmouth, Twixmas Breaks run from 27th to 30th December 2026, from £149 per person, per night.

Gyllyngvase Beach is right outside, and the rest is up to you.

Things to do in Falmouth during Twixmas
Walk the coast path from Gyllyngvase Beach – Gylly, as the locals call it, is right outside. Wrap up after breakfast and follow the coast path with the sea alongside you. In late December the beach and path are quieter than in summer, and the sea air clears the Christmas fog in about ten minutes flat. There’s nobody to keep up with, so set your own pace.
Wander into Falmouth – Head the other way and Falmouth town is a short walk from the resort. The streets are quieter than usual and still lit for the season. That makes for an easy afternoon of browsing and a gentle stroll back in time for dinner. January can wait.
Book a spa treatment – How much of Christmas was actually for you? A treatment is time that belongs to nobody else. Book it after a morning on the coast path, or in the quiet hour before dinner, and arrive at your table feeling like yourself again. Spa treatments can be booked for any day of your stay. Book before you arrive for the widest choice of times.
Swim or train at the Health Club – Maybe your routine went missing somewhere between the Christmas Eve drinks and the third mince pie. If so, the Health Club is a friendly place to find it again. Access is part of your break, so a swim or a gym session can sit alongside a slow morning rather than replace it. No resolutions required.
Dinner at Brasserie on the Bay – After a day of sea air, your evening is already sorted. There’s no scrolling for somewhere to eat, no debate about who’s cooking and no “What shall we get for dinner?”. Just your table at Brasserie on the Bay, a dinner you didn’t have to make and the rest of the night to enjoy it.

Why Twixmas feels different on the Cornish coast
Christmas comes with a timetable. New Year comes with a countdown. Twixmas comes with neither, and that’s exactly the point.
It’s the part of the season with room to breathe and room to Feel Good Again: sea air instead of screens, a swim instead of the sofa, a dinner nobody at home had to cook. In Falmouth, the beach, the town, the spa and your table are all close at hand, whatever the weather decides to do.
And when someone asks what you did over Christmas, you’ll have a better answer than “mostly leftovers.”
Planning a longer festive stay? Our Christmas Breaks lead into the days before, and our New Year Breaks carry you on into the celebrations.
